If you've just switched from AppleWorks to Microsoft Word X or 2004 for Mac, you might be wondering if you can open your AppleWorks documents in Word. The answer is yes! By using the AppleWorks Converter that comes with Word, you can easily convert AppleWorks 5 and AppleWorks 6 documents, as well as AppleWorks 6 Japanese documents, into Microsoft Word documents. And will they look the same as your originals? You bet.
To open an AppleWorks document in Microsoft Word: 1. Open Microsoft Word, (if the Project Gallery opens then click cancel,) click on File (near the top left corner of your screen), and click Open...
2. Click the Enable pop-up menu and click All Documents (at the bottom).
3. Locate and double-click the AppleWorks file you want to open.
Note: If this does not work then check back on your enable pop-up menu from step 6 and if AppleWorks 5 & 6 is not listed as a choice then you can try installing the AppleWorks Converter from the CD-ROM you installed Word from. For more information about installing Office components: open Microsoft Word, click Help, click Word Help (or Search Word Help), and type install Office components in the Office Assistant box. If you do not have the CD-ROM then please check with your school's office or Tech Rep. The AppleWorks Converter will convert most AppleWorks features into equivalent Word features. However, some AppleWorks features — such as macros, rulers, and charts created from spreadsheet data — are not supported in Word and will not be converted. For more information about how specific features are converted: open Microsoft Word, click Help, click Word Help (or Search Word Help), and type open AppleWorks documents in the Office Assistant box. Note: While the AppleWorks Converter allows you to open AppleWorks documents in Word, keep in mind that you will not be able to use Word to save files in the AppleWorks document format. |
